I guess you could say I absorbed my interest in personal finance through osmosis. My father was a wholesaler for a large mutual fund complex starting in the mid-60s. But it wasn’t until my mid-20s, when I became obsessed with the HP-12C financial calculator, that the fascination truly took hold. In 1981, two years after my father founded the firm, he asked me to join him. He convinced me that financial planning was the key to deeper client relationships and professional satisfaction. It turns out I loved the numbers and the relationships. Here I am today, still passionate about this work.
Why does it matter? Because this business is more than just numbers and portfolios—it’s about people, relationships, and making a real difference in lives. That’s what keeps me engaged, even after more than four decades. I still wake up excited about what’s ahead and proud of the work we do.
I grew up in Glasgow, Kentucky—an Andy of Mayberry kind of town. It was a place where everyone knew everyone, doors were left unlocked, and kids had the kind of independence that built confidence and character. Life was simpler but rich in relationships, trust, and a sense of belonging. Glasgow instilled in me the values of hard work, trust, and resilience.
I’m proud of my three adult kids—a not-for-profit executive, a Denver-area restaurateur, and a dedicated mother of three. Building and running a successful business takes time, energy, and commitment, and I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family. My wife, Robin, has been my partner through it all—understanding the long hours and challenges of running a firm. She’s been my sounding board, my greatest supporter, and the one who keeps me grounded. My family’s encouragement allowed me to dedicate myself to the firm.
As I look to the future, I now have the opportunity to mentor the next generation of advisors. Family has always been at the heart of my career—not just my own, but the families of my clients who trust me to guide them through their financial lives.
In my downtime, I enjoy hiking, biking, snow skiing, traveling, and indulging in good food and wine. Spending time with Robin is always a joy. We have a ball together, and I truly appreciate her selfless service to the church and community, her cooking, and the fact that she laughs at my jokes—even the ones only I find funny.
